Annie’s Project gets Off to a colorful start in Christian County
February 9, 2017
Annie’s Project kicked off last week at the Christian County Extension Office in Taylorville. The six-session program started on Feb. 1 with Ruth Hambleton, Founder of Annie’s Project, giving an overview of program and its expectations. Participants also shared their background and purpose for enrolling in the course.
Attendees also took the “Real Colors” personality assessment test given by University of Illinois Extension Educator, Peggy Hampton. “Real Colors” helps attendees discover their personal strengths and the strengths of others by identifying the four major temperament types (expressed as the colors blue, gold, green, or orange). It provides users with an effective tool for understanding human behavior, uncovering motivations specific to each temperament, and for improving communication skills. Real Colors can be incorporated into all areas of daily life, and can be the key to achieving higher levels of success, both professionally, and personally.
On Feb. 3, participants learned about business planning from Pam Schallhorn, Extension Educator, Community & Economic Development. She also discussed understanding financial statements. Then Jamie Myers of Farm Credit Illinois spoke about the importance of financial recordkeeping and statements, understanding financial risks, and the basics of loan applications.
Annie's Project is a six-part course offered by University of Illinois Extension in partnership with Annie's Project. The program looks to empower women in agriculture and offer farm enterprise education by holding discussion-based workshops that bring women together to learn from experts in production, financial management, human resources, marketing, and the legal field.
The program covers: personality assessment, working with government agencies (FSA and NRCS), business planning for farms, basic financial documents for farms, crop insurance basics, marketing basics for selling crops and livestock, leasing farmland, and estate planning (wills and trusts). Annie’s Project also offers plenty of time for questions, sharing, reacting, and connecting with your presenters and fellow participants. It is a relaxed, fun and dynamic way for women in agriculture to learn, grow, and meet other farm and ranch women.
The program is locally sponsored by Farm Credit Illinois, Christian County Farm Bureau, First Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust, and West Sand & Trucking, LLC. For more information, please contact the Christian County Extension office at 217-287-7246 or visit http://go.illinois.edu/AnniesProjectChristian.
