Macoupin County 4-H Shooting Sports to start in April
March 28, 2017
Macoupin County 4-H Shooting Sports will kick-off their season on Thursday, April 6 at 6:30 p.m. at Brittany Trap in Bunker Hill. This will be the sixth season for the 4-H Top Shots Shooting club, which started in March of 2012. Youth must be ten years old to participate in shotgun or .22 rifle and eight years old as of Sept 1, 2016, to enroll in air rifle. This club meets two times a month on Thursday nights at 6:30 p.m.
The 4-H Shooting Sports program helps members develop personal and environmental ethics, self- confidence, teamwork, marksmanship, firearm safety, and decision-making skills.
The Illinois 4-H Shooting Sports program as a whole has over 250 certified adults and adult assistants, which have been involved in teaching the over 750 4-H members enrolled in the Illinois 4-H Shooting Sports program. Macoupin County has six certified instructors and the program is hoping to add to that number in the future.
The Macoupin County program is possible by support of local grants from the Central Illinois friends of the NRA, Auburn Ambulance Service, and National Wildlife Turkey Federation. Brittany Shooting Park has also been strong supporters of this 4-H program.
This program is open to youth ages eight to eighteen. For more information or to join this 4-H Shooting Sports program, contact your local University of Illinois Extension office at 217-854-9604.
