Jersey County 4-H Dog Show

4-H Dog Show

Jersey 4-H members brought their dogs and cats to the annual 4-H Dog Show recently. Dogs were judged on obedience, care and condition and showmanship. Those participating in Dog Obedience were; Ava Pegram of Godfrey, Kelsey Belcher of Godfrey, Kate Jones of Fieldon and Makenna Dugger of Jerseyville. Members and their dogs are judged on their ability to successfully complete different commands. Ava Pegram took home the trophy for Best in Show Dog Obedience.

Members participating in dog care and condition for puppies and dogs were: Ava Pegram, Kelsey Belcher, Kate Jones and Makenna Dugger.

Care and Condition judging covers the animals physical condition, temperament and the 4-H member’s knowledge of their dog. Mackenna Dugger took the trophy for Best in Show Dog with Ava Pegram winning Best in Show Puppy.

In Showmanship, the handler and dog are scored on how well groomed the dog appears, the appearance of the handler and coordination between handler and dog. Those participating were: Kate Jones, Ava Pegram, Kelsey Belcher and Makenna Dugger. Ava Pegram won the Junior Showmanship award. She is eligible to compete in the August 4-H Dog Show.

Our judge for the evening was former Jersey County native, Margaret Wimmersberg. The show’s superintendent was Rachel Meisner.

Thank you to everyone who sponsored trophies for the show. Sarginson Family Farms, AgriSolutions, Inc. and Farmers State Bank.
