4-H Families Package 10,000 Meals for Local Food Pantries

Teamwork was key in order to reach the goal of packaging 10,000 meals for food pantries in Macoupin County.  4-H members and their families gathered together on Saturday, September 30 to join in the fight against hunger. Participants worked in an assembly-line fashion to package the ingredients of rice, soy protein and vitamin mix to make a packaged meal for those in need.

Macoupin County 4-H Federation youth helped plan this event and partnered with Illini Fighting Hunger (IFH) for the needed supplies. Bill Million from the State 4-H office was on hand to guide this event and to assist in helping make it a success. Emmanuel Baptist Church of Carlinville supported the cause by providing the event location and a few extra volunteers.

4-H members “Pledge Our Heads to Clearer Thinking, Our Hearts to Greater Loyalty, Our Hands to Larger Service, and Our Health to Better Living for our club, our community, our country, and our world. They were able to put this pledge into action. Packaged meals were distributed to food pantries in Macoupin County as well as local schools who have food assistance programs that provide students with meals for the weekends.
