2018 Master Gardener Course Starts in January

The University of Illinois Extension office has announced that it will offer the 2018 Master Gardener Course in Carlinville this year. The first session begins on January 23, 2018 at University of Illinois Extension office in Carlinville. Classes are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and continue weekly on Tuesdays through April 10, except one session will be held on February 22, 2018.
Participants can expect to cover topics like basic botany, soils, vegetables, small fruits, tree fruits, trees and shrubs, herbaceous plants, insects, plant diseases and diagnosis and weed management.
Master Gardener volunteers work on behalf of and under the supervision of University of Illinois Extension. They volunteer in their local county and throughout the community on various projects involving parks, schools, gardening, or with other agencies.
Volunteers receive 60 hours of instruction on horticulture from Extension educator and specialists. Interns are expected to provide 60 hours of volunteer service in the two years following graduation.
Cost is $175, including the Master Gardener training manual. Download an application from http://web.extension.illinois.edu/cjmm or request a form by calling 217-854-9604. Applications are due on December 20, 2017.
Online Master Gardener training is available for 2018 with the application deadline being December 15, 2017. Cost for online training is $300 which includes training manual.
