University of Illinois Extension to Offer Diabetes Management Classes in April
March 7, 2018
Almost 3,000 people in Montgomery County are living with Diabetes, and current projections show 1 in 3 Americans will have Diabetes by 2050. If you have diabetes, selecting and preparing foods that are low in sugar, fat and sodium can be a real challenge. To help meet this challenge the University of Illinois Extension will offer a program called I on Diabetes.
I on Diabetes is a series of four 2 hour sessions designed for anyone interested in preventing or managing diabetes. The program provides information on treatment goals and self-monitoring, managing carbohydrates, sodium, cholesterol and fat portions, planning meals, reading food labels, and using artificial sweeteners, low-fat products, and herbs and spices. In each session, participants receive recipes, watch cooking demonstrations, and taste foods to meet their dietary needs.
The goal of I on Diabetes is to help you improve your diabetes care and overall wellbeing. The program is meant to compliment the recommendations of your health care provider and to help you and/or your loved one manage diabetes.
I on Diabetes will meet on the following dates
Wednesday, April 11th
Thursday, April 12th
Wednesday, April 18th
Thursday, April 19th
Each class will run from 5:30pm-7:30pm at the Montgomery County Extension Office in Hillsboro, IL . There is a $20.00 fee which will cover all four sessions. This fee is for the purchase of food and supplies. No products will be sold at the classes. Space is limited, so enroll now. Call 217-532-3941 or register online at web.extension.illinois.edu/cjmm
