Instead of attending the morning workshop, those needing to be certified can choose the correspondence quiz option. If you decide to register, you will need to purchase a copy of the Certified Livestock Manager Training manual (2003 or later edition) or cd to read and review on your own. A sign-on, password and registration form can be e-mailed to you to then enable you to connect to our Quiz web site. After studying the materials, you can connect to the WWW through your Internet Service Provider, wherever you have your computer connected, either from home or maybe in your facility office. PLEASE READ THE CLMT QUIZ SOFTWARE INSTRUCTIONS web page before connecting. If you have any questions call Dale Baird, Extension Specialist, Certified Livestock Manager Program at (815) 978-2844 or email clmt@illinois.edu.
There are 4 quizzes that cover the lessons in the C.L.M.T. manual, plus 1 quiz on the Livestock Management Facilities Act plus Amendments signed into law July 1999 (this also includes Illinois Environmental Protection Agency -Title 35 rules and regulations and Dead Animal Disposal Act - which were shipped with the manual as inserts).
The questions for each quiz are taken from the lessons listed below:
As you may notice NOT all the lessons are covered with quiz questions. That is because not all the lessons will be tested on in the Illinois Department of Agriculture's written examination. Lessons 2, 10, 11, 12, 13, 20, 33, 36, 42, and 52 will not be a source of quiz or IL Department of Agriculture exam questions.
Individual Quiz Format:
Each quiz can be taken 3 times, unless approved by the Extension C.L.M.T. Coordinator. The highest score from your 3 attempts is the one that counts. Questions answered AFTER the time limit has expired will NOT be counted. On the Course Home page you click on the Quiz you wish to take. Particularly for your very 1st quiz, click on and READ the Instructions and Troubleshooting icon to read how the quizzes work. Once you click on the Begin Assessment icon your time limit will start and this will be counted as 1 of your 3 attempts. You will have 30 days to pass all 5 quizzes. The Extension C.L.M.T. Coordinator (Randy Fonner) must approve any extension of that time limit.
Each time you take a quiz, a new set of questions from that quiz question pool will appear. Additionally, the answer sequence for each question will also be different each time. Most are multiple-choice, but some are True/False, and some are calculation problems that can be made easier with the use of a calculator and or pencil and paper. Each quiz is graded separately; quiz grades are not cumulatively scored.
While taking a quiz, click on Save Answer after answering each question. If you decide to change an answer, go back and change the answer, and then click on Save Answer to save the new answer. After you have answered all the questions, at the top and bottom of the page you will find a Finish icon. Clicking on the Finish icon will submit your quiz for grading. This only takes a few seconds. After reviewing you answers, if you wish to take the same quiz again, click on the OK icon. If you wish to take a different quiz, click on the OK icon, then click on the Course Content icon on the left side to go back to your Course Home Page
After passing all the quizzes and submitting your quiz registration form, the Extension C.L.M.T. Coordinator (Dale Baird) will notify the IL Department of Agriculture that you have successfully completed the quiz program. All grades are confidential. In the event that you want or need to be certified at over 1,000 animal units, you will need to phone IDOA at 217.785.2427 to arrange a date and location (Springfield or Sycamore) to take the state-administered Certified Livestock Manager written exam.
NOTE: The quizzes connected with the correspondence-course option DO NOT take the place of the Illinois Department of Agriculture state-administered exam, WHICH IS STILL REQUIRED FOR ALL LIVESTOCK PRODUCERS WITH OVER 1,000 ANIMAL UNITS.
If you did not pass the quiz, clicking on the OK icon will allow you to take the quiz again, to try and improve your score. A new list of questions from that lesson's pool of questions will appear for you to answer
HINT - It is to your benefit to read the lessons before taking the quiz for that chapter. The quizzes are timed. Therefore, it will be difficult to try and look up each and every answer in a given chapter. These quizzes are not intended to be an open book exam.
Questions about the quiz software or problems signing on should be resolved by contacting the Extension C.M.L.T. Coordinator. There are help instructions on-line, plus students can send e-mail to clmt@illinois.edu for assistance. Randy will respond to you as soon as possible.
