Our programs are research-based and practical. Browse our site for the latest in news, tips, programs and volunteer opportunities!  Our unit emphasis is on Home Horticulture, Family Living and Wellness, and Youth Development.  We invite you to explore our program offerings and join us for incredible programs.  If you have a child between 5 and 18 our 4-H program is an advetnure waiting for you.  Young people in 4-H learn valuable skills for a lifetime while exploring projects that interest them. 

If you have an interest in volunteering consider becoming a 4-H Volunteer, a Master Gardener or a Master is a great way to put your passion to work and help others learn.  Our goal is to "Extend Knowledge and Change Lives."

4-H Camp 2016 is set for June 13-17, 2016 at Camp Benson in Mount Carroll, IL. Sign up today to get your child in on all of the amazing fun in this five-day, four-night camping experience. Parents send their children to 4-H Camp for a variety of reasons: to have fun, to make new friends, to develop new skills, to be physically active, and to appreciate nature. 4-H camp teaches youth to make good decisions, build their self-confidence, become independent, and gain the ability to work well with others. During camp week, youth will engage in a variety of activities designed to challenge, educate and entertain. 4-H Camp is open to ALL boys and girls, ages 8-14 by June 13, 2016. 4-H membership IS NOT required. The University of Illinois Extension is committed to providing resources to producers to help them identify and prevent the spread of Palmer amaranth. Do you have a few extra acres you’d like to put to good use? Whether it’s an old farmstead, a fallow green space, or a great big yard you’d rather not mow, you probably have some ideas about what it could become. “How to get started is the question,” said Andy Larson, local foods and small farms educator for University of Illinois Extension in Boone, DeKalb, and Ogle counties. “That’s why our Local Food Systems and Small Farms Extension team is hosting workshops around the state called Putting Small Acres to Work.”

U of I Extension is offering PRIVATE APPLICATOR training and testing clinics starting in January 2016, including a training session on March 24, 2016 at Days Inn at Rock Falls. Pre-registration is required for all training sites through the PSEP website. Test only sites can register at their local extension office.

SOIL and WATER Management Webinar for Certified Crop Advisers will be held on February 25, 2016 at the Whiteside County Office. The webinar is from 9 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. and lunch will be provided. Earn up to 4.5 CEU-hours in Soil & Water Management.

Illinois Food Service Sanitation Manager Course This course, December 8th and December 11th, meets the 8 hour coursework and examination required by the state of Illinois for either the initial Food Service Sanitation Manager certification, or the recertification, which is required every 5 years.
