Learning, Thinking, Caring Webinar Series

Long term care professionals and other professionals who work with older adults now have an easy and convenient way to participate in professional development.  The University of Illinois Extension is proud to present the LTC Webinar Series. 

“Learning, Thinking, Caring Webinar Series” is an educational series for professionals that provides timely, research informed, and helpful information and strategies to assist professionals in providing quality care to clientele.  Individuals and long-term care facilities can participate at no cost.  Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) are available for a fee.  All sessions are conveniently offered from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. CST. 

The series features three dynamic sessions presented by University of Illinois Extension Educators.  The first session, “Making Nursing Home Visits Meaningful,” will be offered on Wednesday, October 11th.  This session will help participants identify with nursing home residents and the emotions that may be preventing quality visits in order to assist visitors have a more comfortable and meaningful visit with their loved one. Practical ideas for making visits more valuable and enjoyable will be shared.

The second session will be offered on Tuesday, November 14th.  “No Bullies Allowed:  Senior Bullying in Your Community” addresses the emerging area of concern of older adult bullying.  Information on senior bullying, understanding bullying behavior, and discovering the impact of bullying on both victims and bystanders will be reviewed.  Potential interventions and strategies to create a respectful, caring community will be emphasized. 

The final session of the series, “The Goldilocks Approach to Downsizing:  Too Much, Too Little, Just Right,” will be offered on Wednesday, December 13th.  Featuring information for professionals to assist individuals with downsizing, tips on how to advice clientele on what to keep, what to give, and what to toss will be presented.
