      Ask a trained, volunteer Master Gardener!

      The Master Gardeners (MGs) of Cook County serve its residents by providing objective, research-driven information and answering all questions related to gardening and the natural world. In an effort to preserve our natural resources and ensure a healthy environment for future generations, Master Gardeners educate on safe and responsible pesticide use; water conservation strategies; gardening with native plants; supporting pollinators; composting; reducing chemical input and other sustainable gardening practices.

      MGs can offer.....

      Recommendations on care of trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, vegetables, fruits, and houseplants

Diagnosis and treatment options for control of insects, diseases, and cultural disorders

General gardening information on soils, composting, pruning, mulching, and more

Plant and insect identification

Winter months

University of Illinois Extension trains volunteer Master Gardeners to help individuals and communities, "Learn to Grow." They participate in over sixty hours of classroom training and serve a sixty hour internship to become certified. Each year they volunteer and take additional training to remain certified. Over 500 volunteer Master Gardeners are active in Cook County.
