Pacific Garden Mission: Greenhouse/Composting

Posted by Ron Wolford -

The following information comes from Mike Finn, Chicago Master Composter Intern.

My friend Nance Klehm runs the greenhouses at Pacific Garden Mission in Chicago's near south side. The greenhouses are adjacent to the cafeteria and can be viewed from this space. So there is physical and visual connection between food growing, being tended, prepared, eaten, discarded, and composted.

The greenhouses feature an impressive vermicomposting operation and the Mission offers worms for purchase by donation. Pick-up is on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9 am to 1 pm. Those interested should contact Nance at nettlesting@yahoo.com.
