The Antcam at London's Natural History Museum

Posted by Ron Wolford -

I have always been fascinated by ants. The study of ants is called Myrmecology; this word comes from the Greek words myrmex (ant), and logos (study). There are more than 12000 ant species in the world. Did you know that ants can carry 10 to 15 times their body weight. The legs of the ant are very strong so they can run very quickly. If a man could run as fast for his size as an ant can, he could run as fast as a racehorse.

The Natural History Museum in London has a wonderful antcam online. Check out the hundreds of leafcutter ants in the colony.
