How Do You Give Yourself Praise?

When was the last time you gave yourself a pat on the back or acknowledged a job you did well? Giving self-praise can be challenging at best, and can even feel egotistical at worst. All human beings have a strong inherent need to be recognized and valued. The truth is, we all need a balance between being able to acknowledge ourselves and needing acknowledgement from others.

Giving self-praise requires you to accept the uniquely wonderful person you are! Yes, we are all unique in our own special ways. This requires self-acknowledging not only your strengths, dreams and goals, but also your fears and quirks. Honor what makes you uniquely you!

Now take a moment to reflect on how do you give yourself praise or recognition when you accomplish tasks, meet your goals, and reach important milestones in your life. The truth is it is all too easy to work so hard at something yet not take the time to celebrate that accomplishment.

Take a few moments to reflect on ways you can give yourself that well deserved pat on the back. You might treat yourself to an outing with family or friends, buy yourself flowers, take a trip, or simply take some extra "me time".

Remember, while we all appreciate praise from friends and loved ones, giving self-praise is equally important, as well as being a vital part of self-care.
