If you have diabetes, selecting and preparing foods that are low in sugar, fat and sodium can be a real challenge. To help meet this challenge the University of Illinois Extension will offer a program called I on Diabetes.
I on Diabetes is a series of four 3 hour sessions designed for anyone interested in preventing or managing diabetes. The program provides information on treatment goals and self monitoring, managing carbohydrates, sodium, cholesterol and fat portions, planning meals, reading food labels, and using artificial sweeteners, low-fat products, and herbs and spices. In each session participants receive instruction, watch cooking demonstrations and taste foods to meet their dietary needs.
The goal of I on Diabetes is to help improve diabetic care and overall wellbeing. The program is meant to compliment the recommendations of health care providers and to help you and/or your loved one manage diabetes. Health education is needed to understand the food relationship to blood sugar or serum glucose after being diagnosed with diabetes. So, we present relevant topics and cooking demonstrations. Plus, provide recipes and food tasting at each class.
The program will be presented on consecutive Fridays: October 5, 12, 19 & 26 from 10:00am -1:00pm at the University of Illinois Extension in Kendall County. The office is located at 7775B Illinois Route 47 in Yorkville.
There is a $40 fee which will cover all four sessions. This fee is for the purchase of food and supplies. No products will be sold at the classes. Space is limited, so enroll now.
