Old Fashioned Bleeding Heart

Plant of the Week!

This week the Old Fashioned Bleeding Heart (Dicentra spectabilis) is blooming beautifully in my landscape! With it's beautiful and unique heart shaped flowers it's a great addition to the shade garden.

Old fashioned bleeding heart has graceful fern like foliage on a mound shaped plant.
Don't like the typical pink bleeding heart? The cultivar 'Alba' is 2-3 feet tall white flowers and 'Goldheart' is 2-3 feet tall pink flowers with golden yellow foliage.

Similar to last week's Virginia Bluebells, the foliage of old fashioned bleeding heart also goes dormant during the summer, so plan accordingly in the landscape.
