4-H Rock Your World with Geology Youth Summer Camp in Macon County

From minerals to fossils, get your rock on this summer! Macon County 4-H is teaming up with the Macon County Conservation District to offer Rock On, a fun hands-on program for rock hounds ages 8 to 18. Participants will learn about the elements of geology and search for specimens to start their own rock and mineral collection.

Classes will be 1 to 4 p.m. June 16 and June 30 at the Rock Springs Nature Center, 3939 Nearing Lane, Decatur. At the end of the two sessions, participants will have a geology project suitable for the Macon County 4-H Show. The two-part series costs $30 and includes class materials. The cost for current 4-H members is $25.

Register online by June 9 at or by calling the Macon County Extension office at 217.877.6042. For more information, please contact the Program Coordinator Becky Hugo at

The 4-H program is provided through University of Illinois Extension and is open to youth ages 8 to 18.
