News Release

Changing for a Healthy Heart

According to new guidelines from the American Heart Association and College of Cardiology released in November, about 103 million or 46 percent of all Americans are now considered to have high blood pressure. The condition, if untreated, can damage and weaken your arteries. In addition, high cholesterol can put you at risk for heart disease or stroke. Both of these conditions can be improved with lifestyle and diet changes.

In an effort to help you become more heart healthy, University of Illinois Extension is offering Meals for a Healthy Heart, a two-part series during American Heart Month to help you learn how diet and lifestyle changes can help manage or reduce your risk of high blood pressure and/or cholesterol. We will discuss how to incorporate heart-healthy practices into your daily choices, from shopping to cooking to meal planning.

Meals for a Healthy Heart will be held February 13 and 15 from 10-11am at the Piatt County Extension Office located at 210 S. Market Street in Monticello. Recipe samples will be provided at both sessions. There is a small program fee to cover the cost of materials. Advance registration by February 9 is required by visiting go.illinois.edu/dmp or by calling 217.762.2191.
