The Dudley Smith Initiative (DSI) supports innovative research and outreach that advances its fundamental goal of invigorating the agricultural system in Illinois.

A landowner with family roots in Christian County, Dudley Smith, Jr. recognized the long-term economic challenges facing agriculture in Illinois, and he anticipated their social impact on rural areas. Dudley Smith urged us not only to embrace technological advancements, but also to address the long-term stewardship and sustainability of agricultural practices.

Tropical Maize/ Energy Crop Field Day (September 9, 2011)

The Schetter Farm south of Brighton, Illinois on Rt 267/111 in Jersey County will be the host site for a Tropical Maize / Bioenergy Crop Field Day and Plot Tour sponsored by U of I Extension in cooperation with Omni Ventures, Inc.on Friday, September 9, 2011 with program starting at 10:00 a.m. and walking tours until early afternoon. University of Illinois Dudley Smith Farm Hosts University of Kentucky Bio-Mass Team

A group of University of Kentucky-Mass Team toured the University of Illinois Dudley Smith Farm on October 5, 2009.  The team is composed of University of Kentucky College of Agriculture Staff members, Extension staff members from campus and Counties, and farmers.  The group is expanding their knowledge of bio-mass crop production and futures uses and technology of bio-mass crops.
