Tip of the Week

Transplanting Trees and Shrubs

The mild winter this year has expanded the planting window. As long as you can get a shovel in the ground and you can get out, you can transplant trees, shrubs and perennials. After transplanting, water thoroughly and carefully to eliminate air pockets in the root zone. Apply a three-inch thick layer of wood chips mulch to the root zone, shaping it like a volcano to minimize frost heaving after planting.
