Adding variety to our daily menus can be a challenge. Here is a new website Fiesta of Flavors that gives 200 healthy recipes focusing on lower fat Hispanic foods . There are appetizers, salads, soups, main dishes, side dishes, desserts and beverages. Each recipe gives preparation time, carb units, nutritional information, and the number of calories as well as colorful photos of the finished products. A special feature is that each recipe can be printed in a recipe card format and shared with friends. The site was designed by Karen Chapman-Novakofski, Extension Specialist, Nutrition.

Every day Illinois residents face natural, technological, chemical and manmade hazards that can potentially become disasters. Even though the probability of people being injured or killed in a disaster is very low, it is extremely probable that lives will be impacted. Utilities may be interrupted for hours or even days; homes, workplaces, or schools may be damaged or destroyed; roads and highways may be closed; and stores may be closed due to damage or have shortages of the items you need. For these reasons, it is extremely important for people to know how to prepare in advance for disasters as well as what to do following a disaster. Extension's new website Disaster Resources provides valuable information on how to be ready for any disaster or emergency. It includes information on severe weather, current weather conditions, earthquakes, resources for educators and links to various agencies and organizations that assist with disaster preparedness, response, and recovery.
