August 3rd in my garden

I finally found some time (and somewhat cooler weather) to clean up my gardens. I removed several wheelbarrow loads of weeds and excess vegetation. I worked 4 mornings and am really happy with the results. What a great way to spend a few vacation days!

My sister came to visit yesterday and said, "You must have the only green grass in 4 counties." Well, I don't think that is entirely true, but we do have our own little tropical jungle in the midst of a desert. We irrigate because we have ample water and it doesn't cost us much financially. We live above a great aquifer and have a well. So, we don't have a city water bill and only pay for electricity to run our water pump. If you've followed my Facebook Page you probably remember that our backyard was a large lake the past two years. That is because our aquifer was at flood stages, which it does about every 20 years. What a difference a year makes.

Look at my blog on that for more tips on how to water wisely. I do practice wise watering practices, but can always do better. Let me know if you have other suggestions on how to use water wisely outdoors.
