Help Available for All Your Garden Questions!

Do you wonder why your crabapple trees are dropping so many yellow leaves or how to deal with those pesky green bugs eating your roses? University of Illinois Extension is here to help answer all your gardening questions using our front line of attack - Master Gardener volunteers (MGs).

Rhonda Ferree, Horticulture Educator with University of Illinois Extension, says that homeowner yard and garden questions come into our Extension offices in many ways, including phone calls, emails, walk-ins, internet requests, program events, and more. A "Garden Helpline" has MGs available at regular hours throughout the growing season serving as Plant Detectives.

"During the 2012 growing season, our Unit offices documented direct responses to over 800 homeowner gardening questions." "In addition, MGs answer many more questions through sponsored events, community presentations, and direct contacts with friends and family."

Julia Pryor, Program Coordinator, and Rhonda Ferree, Extension Educator in horticulture, conduct special diagnosis training for Master Gardeners Plant Detectives. These Master Gardeners go beyond their basic training to learn diagnostic steps and skills on how to identify common plant problems. Plant Detectives also learn how to use the many diagnosis tools that are available in each Extension office. Tools include reference materials, a microscope, digital camera, and access to various internal online tools.

Providing answers to homeowner yard and garden questions is a longtime Extension benefit that endures. Master Gardener volunteers and Extension staff are armed and ready to "Help Others Learn to Grow." Contact us today using one of the following methods.
