Garden Day Events Abound!

Learn more about gardening by attending a garden day event this spring.

"Garden day events are sponsored by University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners and are held all over the state," says Rhonda Ferree, University of Illinois Extension educator in horticulture. "You can find a garden event to attend on almost every Saturday between late February and early April."

Rhonda is scheduled to speak at two garden day events this year.

Her garden day circuit begins March 7 at the 20th Annual Gardener's Palette in Quincy, presented by University of Illinois Extension, Adams County Master Gardeners, and John Wood Community College. During Weed Wisdoms Rhonda provides some simple words of weed wisdom that will put the fun back in the gardening.

On March 28 Rhonda presents at Garden Day at Western Illinois University in Macomb. Sponsored by the Henderson, Knox, McDonough, and Warren Extension Unit, this event includes garden seminars, workshops, vendors, displays, and so much more. During Shade Gardens, Rhonda discussed how to garden in the shade and give a variety of plant options beyond the usual hosta and fern.

Other Garden Day events in Central Illinois include Home, Lawn, and Garden Day on March 7 in Bloomington; Russel Allen Garden Day on March 14 in Lincoln; Gardeners Day on March 21 in Jacksonville; and A Day in the Garden Patch on March 28 in Pontiac.

Gardeners' BIG Day is April 11 at Dickson Mounds Museum in Lewistown. Keynote speaker is Father Dominic Garramone, the Bread Monk. Many breakout sessions will be offered. This event is sponsored by Master Gardeners in Fulton and Mason counties.

Rhonda hopes to see you at an upcoming Garden Day event. For more information and registration specifics, go to www.extension.illinois.edu and follow the "Find an Office" or "Today's Events" links. Happy Gardening!
