Happy New 4-H Year! This is the time of year when youth enroll for the upcoming 4-H year and choose projects. It's also the time of year when many 4-H clubs are enjoying the cooler weather with wiener roasts, hayrack rides or other fun activities. What a great opportunity to share your 4-H fun and experiences by inviting a friend to your next meeting.

"GREAT JOB" to all those members who took the time to fill out award applications and member record forms. Everyone who filled out the applications or forms will receive something for their effort. The 4-H Member Recognition of Excellence Awards youth committee is currently in the process of planning the 2011 awards program.
It's not too late to nominate your leader for the 2011 Peoria County 4-H Leader of the Year Award. We are still accepting nominations until Friday, October 21. To nominate your leader please send us a one page letter explaining why your leader should be chosen as the 2011 Peoria County 4-H Leader of the Year. The award will be presented at the Recognition of Excellence Awards Program on Thursday, November 10.
Premium checks have been printed and delivered to your club leader. The checks are void after 60 days from the issue date, so please, when you receive your checks, be sure to cash them right away. Checks will not be re-issued.

The next 4-H Leaders meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 11 at 6:00 p.m. It will he held at the Extension Office.
The next 4-H Federation Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 25 at the Kickapoo Township Hall from 6-8 p.m. All youth Jr. High age (12) and above are invited to attend.
If you have not already turned in the Treasurer & Secretary books for your club please bring them to the Extension office as soon as possible. We are required by the state to collect these every year. They will be returned to you later this fall. This is not optional. State Policy states that a 4-H Club will NOT be re-enrolled for the new year until the Treasurer & Secretary Books for the prior year have been submitted. If you have any questions please call the Extension office.
Now that a lot of things will be sent via e-mail, please be sure to keep us up to date on your e-mail accounts. Be sure to check if your e-mail address is correct on your re-enrollment forms. If you are receiving this newsletter in paper format, we do not have a current email address for you.
For the 2011-2012 4-H year, 4-H members planning on enrolling in any livestock projects need to do so by January 3, 2012.
All other project enrollments and changes are due May 1, 2012. However, be aware that a young person may join 4-H at any time of the year, but in order to show at the 2012 4-H Show, the above deadlines are enforced.

Shooting Sports – We are still in the development process of providing this project opportunity for our county youth. Currently we are looking for a coordinator and instructors, so if you know of someone that may be interested in being a coordinator or instructor for the shooting sports program in Peoria County please let us know. Training on working with youth is provided for all volunteers.
The 4-H Premier LCP Award is sponsored by the Illinois Farm Bureau and Affiliate Companies for 4-H members age 17 and above by December 1, 2011. LCP stands for Leadership, Citizenship, and Professionalism. This two-tier award program involves an intense leadership development conference and award plaques. Applications can be obtained from the Extension Office website or this link http://web.extension.illinois.edu/state4h/members/recognition_awards.cfm.
Applications must be in the Extension Office no later than Tuesday, January 3, 2012.
Writeable PDF files of the 4-H Secretary's and Treasurer's Handbooks have been added to the State 4-H website under Volunteer Support/Club Meeting Resources. 4-H families, alumni, and friends are invited to cheer on the St. Louis Rams at the 2011 4-H Day with the Rams event on Sunday, December 18, at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Missouri. The Rams are playing the Cincinnati Bengals in a noon game, and tickets are $40 each (a $15 discount from regular ticket prices.) With each ticket ordered, participants are to receive a $10 voucher for food and drinks at the Dome as well as a 4-H Day with the Rams souvenir t-shirt. For orders of 10 or more tickets (placed on one order form,) each person receives an additional $10 food and drink voucher!
There are a limited number of seats available again this year so 4-H families are encouraged to order soon. Ticket orders can be mailed, or you can call or e-mail the order.
