(Weekly / year round) – Held at the Kickapoo Township Hall - The Central Illinois Shotokan Karate 4-H club teaches authentic traditional karate in a stimulating, professional and informative class atmosphere that can be enjoyed by participants of all ages (both boys and girls). Karate is an "empty - hand" weaponless martial art. Students learn karate defensive techniques such as blocking, punching, kicking, evasion from attack, dangerous situation avoidance, common sense self-defense and much more. Classes are conducted in a safe, formal manner just as is found in Japan, with an atmosphere of courtesy and mutual respect that is an important characteristic of a traditional karate class. The benefits of personal protection and fitness from karate training are legendary. Profound improvements in energy levels, stress management, self-esteem, and self-discipline are also typical side benefits of karate training. All Karate ranks and instructors are nationally certified by the American Shotokan Karate Alliance (ASKA). The instructors are regularly trained and evaluated by the National ASKA Black Belt Development Program
