University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners and Master Naturalists volunteer a lot of time and talent at the Kim St John Butterfly Habitat located at Wildlife Prairie Park. They educate youth and adults about pollinator plants, stages of butterflies, helping the butterfly populations, and enjoying nature.

Wildlife Prairie Park held an Open House at the butterfly habitat on June 3, 2017. In addition to special crafts and projects, people were invited to catch butterflies and release them inside the enclosed hoop house. Master Gardeners and Master Naturalists gave lessons on catching and releasing butterflies, plus they pointed out caterpillar eggs, newly hatched caterpillars, two stages of cocoons, and several different types of butterflies.
