Tree Planting

Many properties throughout Illinois have fallow or highly erodible fields, marginal pastureland, wooded pasture, or frequently flooded cropland. These areas are ideal locations to create new forests that provide the habitat requirements of early successional game and non-game wildlife species. Various tree planting programs, including technical assistance, are available to eligible landowners throughout the state. Many of these programs offer financial assistance to offset a portion of the costs associated with planting large quantities of tree seedlings/seed. Please note that most state and federally sponsored programs require a formalized management plan and a contract commitment from the landowner(s). For more information on available tree planting programs, please contact your local Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Farm Service Agency (FSA) or Illinois Department of Natural Resources (DNR) office.
