Planting

With your drawing to guide you, use stakes to mark where each plant will go, or place the actual containerized perennial in place to help you visualize how the final garden will look.

  • Is there enough space?
  • Is there too much space and you need more plants?
  • Do you like how the combinations look?

It is easier to move a stake or a container than to plant, change your mind, dig it up, and replant.

Once you are satisfied, dig adequate size planting holes, allowing enough room for the roots, and plant the perennials no deeper than they were in the container. Firm the soil around the roots to eliminate any empty air pockets and water thoroughly.
