Pope-Hardin 4-H News
December 2016 - January 2017
In This Issue
December / JanuaryDecember and January bring about a little bit of downtime for our 4-H families (in the 4-H world at least). I want to start by welcoming our new 4-H'ers to Pope-Hardin County 4-H! We are so glad to have you and know you'll enjoy your first year of 4-H. Even though we don't have a huge amount of events and activities planned at the local level, there are several events and deadlines that you need to keep in mind. Inside, you will find information on the Junior Leadership Conference, Youth Livestock Conference, and much more. Please keep the deadlines listed inside in mind over the holiday break. I will try to send out reminder emails, but I can't make any promises. Please remember that once registrations close, they are closed. I don't want anyone to miss signing up for an event that they want to attend because they missed a deadline, so make sure you keep your eye out. Now without further ado...

Farm Forensics: A Livestock MysteryAre you a 7th, 8th, or 9th grade 4-H member who is interested in livestock? Would you enjoy studying DNA, genetics, fingerprinting, livestock advocacy, and much more? If so, I encourage you to register for the University of Illinois Extension 4-H workshop "Farm Forensics." This event will take place on February 11th and 12th at the Hawthorn Suites in Champaign, and will include youth from throughout the state. This workshop will provide youth with hands-on activity sessions including DNA extraction, studying bacteria, as well dissection. They will also learn how to be an advocate for anti-agriculture activists, and participate in various leadership opportunities. Registration is open now via go.illinois.edu/4Hlivestock.
