Reminder 4-H Records Due
Friday, September 8, 2017 - You must turn in 4-H records to be eligible to receive a trophy or plaque at Achievement Night. Record packets are still available at the Extension office. County Medal Applications are also due on Sept. 8th. Applicants must be at least 2nd year members. (You can't receive a County Medal or Blue Award if you don't apply.)
Due on September 8 from Leaders:
Membership Checklist; Club Secretary's Book; Club Treasurer's Book; Club Scrapbook; Applications for Achievement Trophy; Award Nominations; Financial Activity Statement.
Forms or applications received after September 8 will not be considered.
Saline County 4-H Achievement Night
Monday, October 16, 2017 at Harrisburg Middle School. We will once again start with a Potluck Dinner at 5:30 p.m. with awards to follow. Please plan to bring a dish or two to share and join us for a fun, informal meal before the start of our Achievement Night program. Mark your calendars now and plan to attend. County Medals and Blue Awards; County Fair Plaques; 1st Year Medallions; Cloverbud Certificates; Secretary Award; Scrapbook Award; 10 Year Plaques; Achievement Trophy; Leader Certificates; And...much more!
Thank You To our team of 4-H Leaders and Adult volunteers…you change and improve the lives of our 4-H youth, and your countless minutes and hours and days of effort helped to make our 2017 Saline County 4-H Shows successful. WE APPRECIATE YOU!!!
Federation MeetingOfficer elections will be held at the 4-H Federation Meeting on Monday, September 18 at 6:00 pm at the Extension office. We are having a Soup Supper! Call the Extension Office if you plan to attend.
Any 2 year 4-H member (8th grade and older) is eligible to run for a Federation Office. Officers must attend ALL Federation meetings and events. Newly elected officers will be installed at Achievement Night on October 16, 2017 and will be emcees for the program. Petitions are available at the Extension office, and anyone running for an office must bring a completed petition to this Federation meeting.
Management Committee Meeting
The 4-H Management Committee will hold a meeting on Monday, September 18 at 7 pm at the Extension office. We will be reviewing the 2017 4-H shows and choosing award winners for Achievement Night. This is an important meeting. All committee members are encouraged to attend.
Achievement Night Committee4-H Achievement Night Committee members...We will hold a short meeting on Monday, October 2, at 6 pm at the Extension office. We will be discussing the potluck meal plan, decorations and set up for Achievement Night. I will send out an email to all members of this committee (just in case you don't know if you are member). Please RSVP to the email. See you there!
Everyone Loves a Road Trip!!!!September 23, 2017 @ University of Illinois Campus; Register @ go.illinois.edu/4Hroadtrip before Sept. 3, COST $10, DJ, GAMES, PRIZES, CAMPUS
Come hang out with 4-H members from across the state in a NEW event to kick off the NEW year. Save September 23 and plan to arrive by 10 a.m. on the University of Illinois campus. Get an inside look at U of I. Discover new things you can do in 4-H. Start your adventure today! $10 cost includes lunch, t-shirt, and goodie bag. Road Trip is open to 4-H members age 13-18. Tell your friends and go 'road trippin' with a few hundred of 4-H members around the state.

All Galatia area 4-H members should meet at the Galatia Village Hall Board Room at 3:00 pm (or as soon as possible) to witness as Mayor

PSA's at WEBQ - Thursday, September 21
We will record Public Service Announcements at WEBQ Radio Station from 3 pm - 4 pm. The PSA's will run during National 4-H Week. I have pre-written PSA's or you can write a 30 second spot about your own 4-H experience. Call the office if you can record a message.

Herrin City Hall at 1:00 pm to witness as Mayor Steve Frattini signs a
National 4-H Week proclamation. Wear a 4-H T-shirt!
Window Display ContestYou and your 4-H club are invited to participate in the 4-H Window Display Contest. Just have your display completed for judging by Sunday, October 1, and call Nancy with the location so it can be judged! (Remember, your display doesn't have to be in a window. Any space that is seen by lots of people will be great!) We are asking that you leave the displays in place until October 7th, the end of 4-H Week.
Individual 4-H members who would like to design a 4-H poster for National 4-H Week are asked to have the posters in place by Sunday, October 1st. Call Nancy with the poster location. I would like for all posters to be brought to Achievement Night on October 16 to decorate the stage.
Display and Poster Contest Guidelines
1. Promotes 4-H and what members gain from joining (20 points)
2. Follows the theme (20 points)
3. Has an "attention getter" that attracts viewers (20 points)
4. Is neatly and logically arranged and clearly expresses message (20 points)
5. Gives name of 4-H club and contact information, such as phone number, e-mail address, and where assistance is available (20 points)
Winners will be announced at Achievement Night! Good Luck!
2018 Salute to Excellence 4-H Volunteer AwardsThe Illinois 4-H program is built on the work of amazing volunteers, and we look forward to recognizing our volunteers for what they do! The National 4-H Council sponsors the Salute to Excellence Award Program that targets 4-H volunteers who demonstrate exemplary service to 4-H, while promoting service through volunteerism as both an opportunity and a privilege.
Outstanding local volunteers can be nominated for consideration as the 2018 Illinois Salute to Excellence Volunteer. If you are interested in nominating a volunteer for consideration, contact your extension office.
The award categories are:
Volunteer of the Year – recognizing individuals who have served as 4-H volunteers for less than 10 years at the local, county, region, and state level.
Outstanding Lifetime Volunteer – recognizing individuals who have served 10 or more years at the local, county, region or state level.
Nomination criteria will be available at your local Extension Office. Nominations are due to the State 4-H Office by Thursday, September 21, 2017.
Trailblazers SPIN ClubThe Trailblazers Horse SPIN Club will be holding meetings and practice sessions for the Regional Horse Bowl/Hippology Contest to be held in the Spring. Club leader, Joy Richey, asks that anyone interested in joining the Trailblazers please contact the Extension office by the end of September. They would love to have you as part of the club!
4-H NATIONAL YOUTH SCIENCE DAYIt's time again to explore the new 4-H National Youth Science Day experiment! Join us on Monday, October 2nd from 3:30-5:00 at the Extension Office!
The 2017 4-H National Youth Science Day Challenge, Incredible Wearables, gives young people the opportunity to use the engineering design process to build a wearable fitness tracker that will help people lead healthier lifestyles. Along the way, young people will learn how circuits, sensors and health data can be blended with fashion to create a viable wearable tech product. Please RSVP to the Extension Office if you can make it!
Attention Dog Exhibitors...Dog Agility practice is scheduled for September 5, 12, and 19 at 6:30 pm at Cheri White's shop to prepare for the Heartland Pet Fest at the Marion Pavilion on Sept. 16-17.
Our Saline Co. 4-H Dog Agility participants will be demonstrating their Agility skills on Saturday and on Sunday. In addition to these demonstrations, our 4-H youth will be holding demonstrations at John A. Logan Hunting & Fishing Days on Sept. 23-24. Thanks to Cheri White for her instruction!
2017 Family Camp at 4-H Memorial CampRegistrations are now being accepted for the Sept. 22-24, family camp program at 4-H Memorial Camp!
Come experience rock climbing, zip lining, archery, fishing, hayrack rides, campfires, crafts, cardboard boat racing, and many other fun activities.
Your family will sleep in a cabin, have meals provided (starting Friday dinner and ending with Sunday Lunch), and enjoy A LOT of fun activities! Expect to have fun, eat heartily, and make memories which will last a lifetime!
At least one youth attending must be 8 to 16 years old, and children must be accompanied by at least one parent or guardian. The fee for participants 8 years and up is $75/person, while those 4-7 years old are only $35/person.

4-H Shooting Sports is Back!The 4-H Shooting Sports program is
returning this fall! Pope-Hardin 4-H is inviting Saline County 4-H members to participate in a new rifle club. Youth will learn how to safely handle and shoot air rifles during club meetings. Leader Brad Curry is excited to meet new
members and get started. We will be meeting at:

Meetings will be held from 9:30-11:00 am on the following dates.
