Livestock Committee Meeting
Saline County 4-H Livestock Committee will meet on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 7:00 pm at the Extension office.
All Livestock Committee members (newly appointed members from each club) and others are invited to attend.
Agenda items will include electing officers, setting dates for the Beef, Swine, Meat Goat, and Lamb Weigh-Ins for the Rate of Gain Contest and reviewing the Livestock pages for the 2012 4-H Handbook.
Management Committee Meeting
Saline County 4-H Management Committee will hold its first meeting of the year on Monday, January 23, 2012 at 7:00 pm at the Extension office.
All Management Committee members and Federation officers are invited to attend. In addition to electing officers, we will be discussing any changes that need to be made to the 4-H Handbook for this year, as well as looking ahead to the 2012 Saline County 4-H Shows and events.
4-H Federation News
The Federation will be shopping at Dollar Tree on December 5 at 5:00 pm for Operation Homefront. We will help supply Christmas gifts for children of military families.
THEN... The Saline County 4-H Federation Christmas Party will be held on Monday, Dec. 5, 2011 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm at the Extension Office.
We will be serving a light supper, playing games and celebrating Christmas with our 4-H family!
Please bring a $5.00 wrapped exchange gift suitable for anyone, if you want to participate in the Gift Exchange.
Also, bring any type of sweet Christmas treat to share.
Call the Extension office by Friday, Dec. 2, to let us know if you will be attending so we will have enough food and game supplies.
The next regular Federation business meeting will be held on Monday, January 23, 2012 from 6 - 7 pm at the Extension office before the Management Committee Meeting.
Shop with a Cop
We will be assisting the Harrisburg Police Dept. and the Saline Co. Sheriff's Dept. with their annual "Shop with a Cop" program.
All Jr. High/High-school age 4-H members and adult volunteers who would like to participate should arrive at Harrisburg Super Walmart between 8:00 and 8:30 am on Saturday, December 17.
Wear your 4-H t-shirt!
Meet inside the garden center entrance and we will get instructions from the officers.
Leaders or members - call the Extension office by Dec. 12 to let us know if you can help.
This is a great way to serve the community and make some local children very happy this holiday season.
Breakfast will be served to all volunteers at 7:00 am that morning at the Lion's Club. Please let us know if you plan to attend the breakfast.
Blood Drive
The 4-H Federation will sponsor a Red Cross Blood Drive on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 from 3-7 pm at the Harris-Pruett Building on Church St. in Harrisburg.
We will need at least 2 volunteers (over age 18) for the canteen area, as well as other volunteers (Jr. High and High School) for the registration table and to assist donors.
We are dividing the work into 2 shifts: 3 - 5 pm and 5 - 7 pm. The second shift workers will help with clean-up.
Please contact the Extension office with the names of volunteers from your club, so we can make sure all the stations are covered.
We are asking that clubs bring or send cookies, snacks or sandwiches for the donors. You can bring these items to the Extension office before 2:00 pm that day or directly to the Harris-Pruett Building.
4-H - Head, Heart, Hands, Health We are making a difference!
Posters and Flyers to advertise the Blood Drive will be available at the office by the middle of December.
Leaders, please stop by the office to pick up some of these materials to help us advertise the date to reach our goal of 30 pints.
Federation Cosmic Bowling
Calling All 4-H Members and Volunteers...
The 4-H Federation invites you to a fun evening of COSMIC BOWLING at Ross Cottom Lanes on Friday Night, February 3, 2012 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
The cost this year will be $3.00 per game, per person. and shoe rental will be an extra $2.00 per person.
RSVP before January 27 if you plan to attend by calling Nancy at 252-8391.
This will be a great time to socialize with members of other clubs. We would love to see a big crowd of 4-H members and adult volunteers in attendance.
Don't forget to bring extra money for snacks and drinks.
4-H Handbook Cover Contest
Calling all 4-H Artists...It's time to start your design for the 2012 4-H Handbook Cover Contest.
We are asking for entries to be turned in tothe Extension office by 4:30 pm on Friday, January 27, 2012.
The entry rules for the contest are:
- Submit original design on white paper only (8 1/2 X 11 in).
- Leave 1-inch margins on all sides.
- Use ONLY black ink or black marker.
- Use the words "Saline County 4-H" and the year "2012" somewhere on your design.
- Put your name on the front of your entry.
- Entry should reflect 4-H in Saline County.
- If you want to use a clover in your design, we request thatyou use the official 4-H emblem. Contact the Extension office and we will print out a 4-H Clover for your use.
- One entry per 4-H member may be submitted.
- Entries must be received by 4:30 pm on Friday, January 27, 2012. No Exceptions!
- Please submit entries with your name, club, and age.
Remember, there is a monetary prize at Achievement Night for the winner.
Holiday Mail for Heroes
As your preparing your holiday cards this year for friends and family, don't forget to send a card or two to our brave men and women overseas. Many of our troops are not able to spend the holidays at home with their families.
The American Red Cross is offering the Holiday Mail for Heroes program again this year. So get our your construction paper, glue, markers, and scissors to create a card expressing our appreciation for their service!
