4-H Online!Attention 4-H Members and Volunteers...
Approximately half of our expected members and two-thirds of our volunteers enrolled in Saline County 4-H through 4-H Online. We are encouraging the rest of you to enroll as soon as possible. Families create a family profile to enroll all members of their family at once. And, you can see your 4-H information and edit that information all year long from your computer or mobile device. To get started, go to our Saline County 4-H website:
http://web.extension.illinois.edu/ghhpsw/saline4h/2771.html Scroll down to "How to Enroll Through 4-H Online" and "Letter to New Member" to get all the details. Or, call or come by the Extension Office and we can help you get started. The documents include info on payment options, the $20 Enrollment fee, the waiver for enrolling more than 3 youth in a family, paying by credit card online or bringing your cash or check payment in to the office, signing up for projects, etc. When enrolling - Be sure to select the county you wish to join and not the county you live in if they are different.
4-H Rally NightSaline County 4-H plans to hold our Annual 4-H Rally on Monday, March 6, 2017 from 6 - 8 pm at the Eldorado Elementary Gym. Clubs may begin setting up at 5 pm. Please call the Extension office by Monday, February 20 to let us know your club's game and/or food choice. This is a fun way to earn money for your club's activities. Increase your membership - Invite a friend to the rally! Clean-up will be from 8 - 8:30 pm. Clubs are responsible for cleaning up their area following the rally. Remember to bring your own tables, chairs, extension cords, etc. We will be collecting non-perishable food items for our area food pantries. Please remind members and guests to give generously!

4-H Partnering to Package MealsMany people in our communities do not know where their next meal will come from. Many worry how they will feed their families. Our local food pantries need help to meet the needs of our area. YOU can help! Gallatin, Hardin, Hamilton, Pope, Saline, and White county 4-H members, volunteers, and parents are partnering to package meals to stay in our 6 counties. We need 50-60 volunteers to make this possible! The Unit 24 food packaging event will take place at Ten Mile Baptist Church in McLeansboro on Saturday, April 1, 2017. Check-In and set-up will begin at 8:30 with welcome and instructions beginning at 9:00. We anticipate packaging will take approximately 4 hours to package the meals. This will depend on the number of volunteers we have. If you can only volunteer for an hour, that's ok too. How do I sign up to volunteer? It's easy, call your local Extension Office. Each participant will need to bring a signed assumption of risk form to the event or drop off at your local office. Do you want to learn more about our upcoming event? Check out this video to see an event in action, http://www.youtube.com/illinifightinghunger 4-H can make a difference! Please join us to lend your hands to larger service. If you have questions, please contact Melissa Wilson at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for helping us make this event a success!
Each county wanting meals for their local food pantries is encouraged to fundraise to pay for ingredients. Please let us know if you have any fundraising ideas or if clubs or individuals would like to contribute money.
It’s time again for our Sewing SPIN club!Do you like to sew, or would you like to learn how? Have you sewn with us in the past and want to continue to advance your skills? We have the perfect opportunity for you!

We also need some additional adult and teen volunteers to help! We look forward to hearing from you! Bring your sewing kit with basic supplies such as: Scissors, Measuring Tape, Pins and Pincushion, Needles, and Thimble. Participants will be sewing an apron this year. Sewing leader, Denise Bond, is looking forward to another successful Sewing Class!
Quality Assurance and EthicsOnline ethics certification is required for everyone taking 4-H animal projects.
All 4-H members enrolled in an animal project area are required to complete the online Quality Assurance and Ethics course one time in order to stay enrolled in an animal project area. The certification must be done if you are enrolled in one of the following projects: Beef, Dairy, Cats, Dogs, Goats, Horse & Pony, Poultry, Rabbits, Sheep, Swine, and Animal or Vet Science Poster Projects!
The training is to be completed online at: http://web.extension.illinois.edu/qaec/
Youth will only need to complete the training once. The deadline for completing the training in Saline County is June 1, 2017. Any youth not completing the training by this date will be removed from any livestock projects and will not be allowed to exhibit at the Saline County 4-H Livestock shows. This rule applies to 4-H members who exhibit live animals AND poster exhibits. After you complete your training, print out the certificate and bring it to the Extension office for our files. If you need help accessing the internet to complete this training, call the Extension Office at 252-8391.
