Beverages: Empty Calories or Not?
Your beverage choices can make a huge difference in your diet! Take a minute to think about what you routinely drink. Do you usually have a beverage with your meals: coffee, tea, pop, milk, or water? Can you recall the non-alcoholic beverages you drank yesterday? Most people cannot. We tend to remember the food, but not the beverages.
Beverages are fun to drink, but they can be an expensive serving of empty calories. Calories in beverages are not hidden; they are listed right on the Nutrition Facts label. Those calories can really add up. Most people don't realize just how many calories beverages can contribute to their daily intake. But there is good news: you have plenty of options to choose from in the beverage department.
In this class we will discuss 5 different categories of non-alcoholic beverages: water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices, cow's milk and functional beverages. We will also discuss how these beverage choices may have a direct influence on your health.
