1. 4 inch soil temp: 70.6 degrees F

2. Growing Degree Days since April 1: 1073 GDD

3. Water use efficiency. Drip irrigation can improve water use efficiency (80-95%) and total water use if the system is designed properly.. However, drip does not reduce the overall plant water requirements. Drip irrigation is a method which must be managed properly to get the most out of the system.

4. Tipburn in lettuce. Tipburn is a physiological disorder that can occur on lettuce. It is related to calcium nutrition. Proper soil pH and watering will help avoid this problem. Direct , intense sunlight also impacts the phenomenon.

5. Japanese beetle traps. Research conducted at the University of Kentucky showed that these traps attract many more beetles than are actually caught. Consequently, susceptible plants along the flight path of the beetles and in the vicinity of traps are likely to suffer much more damage than if no traps are used at all.
