Caregivers Need Care Too!

Posted by Cara Allen - Caregiving

November is national Caregiver Awareness month.  Most of us are aware of someone who takes care of a friend or loved one.  If so, then this person may be in need of a "lift."  The October/November 2015 edition of AARP The Magazine lists 100 ways to do an act of kindness for a caregiver.  Some suggestions-

  • Cook & deliver a meal she likes.
  • Drive his kids to a sports practice or game.
  • Grab her grocery list and go shopping.
  • Wash his car and change the oil.
  • Mail her a care package.
  • Stop by with a board game to play.
  • Drop off and/or pick up a prescription.
  • Give him and the care receiver a ride to an appointment.
  • Take her out for coffee.
  • Arrange for a housecleaning service to visit.
  • Register him with a fancy-food (or beverage) "of the month" club.
  • Set up a bird feeder at the care receiver's window and then keep it stocked.
  • Rake her leaves.

These are just ideas to get you started.  I'm sure that you can come up with your own ideas based on your relationship with the caregiver.  Let them know today that you care!
