I had the chance to talk with Belle Steck about her recent induction into the 4-H Hall of Fame on August 13, 2011, at the Illinois State Fair. " I was a 4-H member in Madison County. I started when I was ten years old, so I have been involved with 4-H for seventy years." Belle stated. " Back then the girls and boys had separate clubs, the girls did the household projects like sewing and baking." "Special awards were what all of the club members strived for, it was a big deal to take your project to the dress review and earn special awards, I also liked seeing my club friends."
Belle has also served as a 4-H club leader. She said she was honored yet humbled to get the award. One of the highlights of the day was seeing a former 4-H member. Belle said, " I had not seen this lady for many years, I had been her club leader. She just happened to be there and we had a special picture taken."
Belle continues to support Knox County 4-H by serving as a judge at the 4-H Shows and is always willing to lend a hand. Belle says, "4-H is such a great program, I am glad to help whenever I am needed." Congratulations and thank you Belle for all you have done and continue to do for Knox County 4-H!

Robbie is a sixth grader at Churchill Junior High. He enjoys 4-H because he likes working on projects and attending meetings with his older cousin. He said, " my cousin inspired me to join 4-H." His favorite project that he presented at the 4-H Show was his electromagnet project. Robbie says that he thinks 4-H will help prepare him for his future. He would like to be a scientist.
Alice Axline is in the sixth grade at Churchill Junior High. She said she likes 4-H because she gets to learn fun things with her friends. She worked on many projects for the 4-H Show, but one of her favorites was the sewing project. Her career choice would be fashion design. This year during 4-H Alice says she may want to work on dog obedience, she and Robbie are patiently waiting for the arrival of their "spoken for puppy", Ginger.

Dear 4-H Supporters and Families:
I am excited to start the new 4-H year. I think for some the New Year is a new beginning and for others it is a continuation of your successes. Angel I have been meeting with 4-H leaders who have turned in your awards and club records. This is very important to close out the 2010-2011 year. This has been a great process for Angel and I so we can hear about your success stories and learn about your strong 4-H Club programs. Please let me know what kinds of programs that you would like for me to provide for this 4-H year. You can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Yours in 4-H,
Youth Development Educator
