Inside 4-H Looking Out

What's Happening with 4-H in Henry, Mercer, Rock Island and Stark Counties

Let Robotics Begin

It is so exciting to see and hear about the LEGO League robotics teams who are practicing in our four county area in Rock Island and Henry counties.  Based upon research done with other similar groups, youth learn to work as a team and about  computer programming.  Other areas of problem solving skills that improved were the ability to think about the consequences of an action and making a plan.  This is from youth ages nine to fourteen!  Youth involved typically continue to sign up each year because of how much they learn from the experience.

Currently we are recruiting for a high school robotics team that would build a robot, not out of Legos, for six weeks in January for an intense experience.  Adult mentors and coaches are needed for this group in the Quad Cities area.  We are lucky enough to receive a grant from JCPenney to start a new team this year.  Please let me know if you are interested!

Begin Your Revolution

If you are interested in learning more about the National 4-H Week theme -- Join the Revolution of Responsibility, please visit the web site to learn more about it:  http://www.4-h.org/about/revolution/interior/default.aspx?id=2422

You will find several inspiring stories of youth from all across out nation who started a revolution of their own to make changes in their communities.  Here is your challenge.  What will you do to start a revolution in your community?

What needs to happen in your community to make it a better place?  What are your 4-H interests and passions?  When thinking of the two how can you make a contribution?  Perhaps starting out small and building your idea is the way to start.  It's important to begin and know that you are helping others.

Join the Revolution!
