Poverty Simulation Volunteers, Sat, March 12, 8:45 - Noon,
Western Illinois University, Moline, IL

University of Illinois Extension 4-H will be hosting a Poverty Simulation for teens attending the Quad Cities Teen Leadership Academy on Saturday, March 12th at Western Illinois University, Riverfront Campus in Moline. This event is planned by teens, for teen and the Poverty Simulation will be an excellent way to immerse teens in a simulated month living in poverty.  Volunteers are needed to staff fifteen different stations during the simulation.  Volunteers will be at stations which represent the resources the teens need to "live for one month" in a simulated scenario of situational poverty.  These include:  banker, school teacher, day care provider, employer, human services staff, pawn shop, police, illegal activities, community action agency, etc.  All supplies are provided and no prior is experience is needed in order to volunteer.

If you're interested, we'd love to have you join us as one of our volunteer staffers.  Or, perhaps you know of someone else who would like to help make an impact on our local teens.  We'll begin with orientation at 8:45 a.m.  The actual simulation will run from 9:30 - 12:00 p.m.  Volunteers are welcome to join us for lunch or leave at noon - whichever best fits their schedules.  Contact Diane Baker at (309) 756-9978 or email bakerd@illinois.edu
