University of Illinois Extension Knox County Council 2009 - 2010 Council Members September 24, 2009
The regular bi-monthly meeting of the Knox County Extension Council was called to order on Thursday, September 24 by Cynthia Rich at 5:10 p.m. at the Knox Agri-Center.
Those in attendance were Stuart Allison, Courtney Anderson, Jennifer Bunde, Joey Davis, Noah Emery, Frances Hawthorne, Gayla Holmes, Cynthia Rich, Kathleen Ridlon, and Dorothy Wilson.
Others attending were Kyle Cecil, Tony Franklin, Kari Houle and Carrie McKillip.
Those absent were Tracy Bragg, Sheree Burns, Ian Crawford Mackin, Donna Larson, diana Mackin, Will Moser, Mattie Scott, and Janelle Willis.
Public Comments: A welcome was given new council members.
Minutes: The minutes of the last meeting were reviewed and approved with a motion by Frances Hawthorne and a second by Noah Emery.
Fiscal Reports: The report was presented by Tony Franklin. He mentioned that 35% of our income had been received by August 1 and that the county board money is starting to come in.
Council Member Reports and Comments: Carrie asked if any council members attended the 4 –H Show. Stuart and Courtney said they had attended. Cynthia mentioned that Angel Wright had contacted the Mable Woolsey School to do the hand washing program.
Staff Reports: All staff members submitted a report and some offered additional comments.
Tony Franklin gave highlights from the "Ready, Set, Govern! Leadership and Strategic Management Workshop". Kari Houle talked about the "Dig in the Fall" Master Gardener event planned for September 26.
Other Reports and Comments: From the September 17th meeting: Cheryl Geitner passed out some literature about the Future of Illinois 4-H Youth Development Programs. She explained that the goal of these new developments is to reach 500,000 youth – which for Knox County means 5000 participants…. She also emphasized that 4-H is looking for volunteers to get involved in short term projects. She also described one new program called "Shooting Sports". Stuart asked about the goals of this and Cheryl explained that it will be directed at target accuracy with archery, rifles, and shotguns and that training sessions will be required.
Old Business: Tony mentioned that we have two vacancies on the council.
New Business: Election of Officers
A motion was made by Gayla Holmes for Noah Emery to be Chair of the Extension Council, with a second by Frances Hawthorne. A motion was made by Gayla Holmes to retain Cynthia Rich as the Vice Chair - a second was given by Stuart Allison. Dorothy Wilson motioned to retain Kathleen Ridlon as the secretary – a second was given by Gayla Holmes. Stuart Allison motioned to retain Donna Larson as the treasurer and Frances Hawthorne gave a second.
Election of Extension Board Members: A motion was made by Stuart Allison with a second by Frances Hawthorne to have Stuart Allison, Noah Emery, Frances Hawthorne and Jennifer Bunde serve as Extension Board Members.
Regional Advisory Council Representative: Kathleen Ridlon nominated Cynthia Rich and a second was given by Stuart Allison.
Concurrence on Charge Accounts: A motion to accept was made by Frances Hawthorne and a second by Joey Davis.
Signatory for In and Out Account: A motion to keep Donna Larson in this position was made by Cynthia Rich with a second by Dorothy Wilson.
The next meeting scheduled: Thursday, November 19, 2009 @ 5:00 in the Knox Agri Center Auditorium, 180 Soangetaha Road, Galesburg, IL.
Adjournment: Frances Hawthorne gave a motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:00pm with a second by Cynthia Rich.
