Fall 2009

Message from the Extension County Director

Lake County Extension staff has continued to work hard to address current county issues related to its program areas. Though this has been a year of uncertainty for Extension with State and County budget shortfalls, the good news is that we survived with all revenue appropriations expected in the FY 2009. The bad news is that we have been told to plan for a 5,10,15% reduction over the next 5 years.

Welcome to our new University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana Associate Dean of Extension and Outreach Dr.Robert Hoeft who was the University of Illinois head of the Crop Science Department since 2005. He was raised on an irrigated crop-livestock farm in Nebraska with a BS and MS in agronomy from the University of Nebraska and PhD in Soil Science from the University of Wisconsin.

We also would like to welcome all our new Foundation and Council board members that have joined with the Extension staff to make a difference in our communities and county. You will find new member names following this message.

We wish each of you a joyful and blessed holiday season!!!!

James E. Reaves

County Director, Lake County Unit
