Training and Certification
Training and Certification for livestock producers and commercial manure applicators
Welcome to the University of Illinois Extension livestock training website. This website provides information about upcoming training opportunities and courses for livestock producers, technical service providers, and other individuals interested.
This program focuses on educating Illinois livestock producers in environmental stewardship and best management practices for their operations. Producers who participate in this program gain knowledge on the best ways to manage and utilize their manure.
Livestock and poultry producers should be certified under the Illinois Livestock Managers Facility Act every 3 years. You can become certified by attending one of the training programs held around the state in February and March, or by taking the online training modules. If you have more than 1,000 animal units you will need to take an exam administered by the Department of Agriculture.
On-farm mortality composting popularity is growing among Illinois livestock producers. U of I Extension offers this workshop to better assist producers that are learning to manage these types of systems or those that are looking to implement this technology on their farm. These workshops are held periodically and notices sent out in advance. Watch for them!
Custom applicators are not required to recieve training for certification in Illinois, however many choose to participate in our voluntary training program. Additional details on this program and contact information are provided.
