Sandra Prez provides leadership to the 4-H Metro Youth Development program for Lake and McHenry counties. Sandra received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Aurora University, Aurora, IL. Sandra also studied bilingual education at the Universidad de las Americas in Puebla, Mexico, where she went on to lead the English Training Center, a successful language school in Puebla. Sandra Prez’s career experience includes teaching and coordinating Spanish language bilingual programs in Lake County, as well as administrative positions as Dean and Principal in local schools with large Hispanic populations.
Sandra joined Extension in 2013. Her work focuses on 4-H youth development programming in the local metropolitan area, specifically leading positive youth development initiatives for after school programs with a focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) as well as healthy living initiatives that include obesity prevention education and urban youth gardening.
Sandra is experienced in community outreach that includes schools, community groups, 4-H Clubs and other youth-serving organizations. Her areas of expertise include outreach to the Hispanic communities of Lake and McHenry counties as well as work with youth development principles, youth leadership, and preparing teens as teachers.
