Frost Seeding Red Clover - from Mike Roegge

As a reminder, early March is a good time to frost seed red clover into grass pastures. This accomplishes several things: adds protein to the pasture, provides nitrogen to the grass and reduces the complications of fescue toxicity. Seeding 3-4# every year or 6-8# every other year is recommended. The clover establishes best in grass pastures that have been grazed down. This allows the clovers a better opportunity to compete against the grass. You may also want to get a soil test performed sometime during the year as well. The soil pH is important when attempting to establish legumes.
