2010 County Crop Yields Released

The Crop Reporting Service of the USDA just released yields by county on February 28. The state average yield was 157 bushels per acre. Logan County averaged 155.7, Sangamon 154.5, DeWitt 161.1, Macon 168.5, Mason 141, Tazewell 163.4, and McLean 169.5.

The top counties in the state were Carroll at 189.8, Ogle at 183.4, Boone with 182.5, and Stephenson and DeKalb at 180.4. The top producing county for total production remained McLean County with 60,522,000 bushels of production.

The Logan County yield was down significantly from the 2008 and 2009 yield of 188. The record yield for Logan County is 197 bushel per acre yield achieved in 2007. This makes the 10 year corn average 172.47 bushels per acre. 10 year averages for Sangamon and Menard Counties were 176.85 and 171.86 respectively. For soybeans, the state average yield was 51.5 bushels per acre. Logan County averaged 57.6, Sangamon 60.4, DeWitt 59.7, Macon 60.4, Mason 48.7, Tazewell 58.1, and McLean 58.5.

The top counties in the state were Piatt with 63.3 bushels per acre, Moultrie with 62.8, Christian at 60.5, and Sangamon and Macon tied at 60.4.

The top producing county for total production remained McLean County with 15,805,000 bushels of production.

The Logan County yield of 57.6 established a new record for soybeans, besting the previous 2004 yield of 56 bushels per acre. The prior year yield was 51 bushels for Logan, 53 for Sangamon, and 50 for Menard. Ten year averages were Logan with 45.713, Sangamon at 47.093, and Menard with 48.52.
