The Great 4-H Debate

The Great 4-H Debate

4-Hers recommend the Great Debate!

My favorite part of the 4-H Great Debate was probably meeting people from all over Illinois and the debating. The happy meal bill fired me up and the year round school arguments really opened my mind. What irked me about the happy meals was the unhealthiness of them. Yes you can get alternatives, but some of alternatives are unhealthy. Like the milk you can get. If you get chocolate or strawberry milk then the sugars in it are about the {same} amount in a can of soda. With apple slices, you get a caramel sauce loaded with sugar. Michael Goke, Sangamon County

At the 2010 4-H Great Debate, I had wonderful time. Learning about the legislative process and being able to experience gave me a lot of respect for our state's representatives and senators. Debating a bill is a lot more complicated than most people imagine. Also, I was able to meet many new people from all over the state. The people I met were fun and also brought new ways of looking at all the bills we debated. Overall the 4-H Great Debate lived up to its name and was a really great experience. Taylor Morris, McLean County

Blair and I carpooled down with 5 other 4-Her's from McLean county. When we arrived at the camp we signed in (registered). After we registered we had mixer's, dinner, met with our debate groups and discussed our arguments, and then had a general recreation time in the gym. Saturday morning we had breakfast and took a bus to the Springfield capitol building. When we arrived at the capitol building they let us choose a seat and went over safety stuff, and how to debate bills, and from then on we debated bills! It was a very good learning experience, They made it a point to teach us about lobbyists, and shared with us the importance of telling our representatives and senators about the importance of 4-H. A very good experience. Addison Phillips, McLean County
