4-H Skynet Junior Scholar Program

Learn more about what is outside the Earth's atmostphere usning telescopes from around the world. Two members of the Twin City Amateur Astronomers Club will be teaching a six week Skynet Junior Scholars program for youth in 6, 7, and 8 grades. There is no charge for the program but you must commit to attending each workshop and have access to a computer and internet at home. The workshops will be held on Thursday evenings in June and July from 6-7:30 p.m. at the McLean County Extension Office. Space is limited so register early.

Food Challenge: 

Cooking from your pantry edition

Are you a fan of the Food Network show Chopped? Do you like eating? If you answered yes to either one of these questions, then we have the perfect workshop for you and your family! Extension’s Food and Nutrition Educator, Jenna Smith, will help guide you through using your pantry items to make a healthy and tasty meal. The McLean County 4-H team will then challenge you and your family to create a meal using a set of ingredients we will provide. There will even be a pantry of items to help you make your dishes. Families can compete in teams of up to five individuals.

Raising Rabbits

Come learn about how to raise your own rabbits from an expert. Gary Mohr has been a 4-H rabbit superintendent and member of the Rabbit Breeders Association for many years. He will give you all the information you need to get started raising rabbits. This workshop is open to the entire family.

Pollinator Pocket Gardens

If you love butterflies, bees and lady bugs then this is the workshop for you.  The 4-H program is dedicated to the conservation of the Monarch butterfly and pollinators that have great importance in every ones daily life. Horticulture Educator, Kelly Allsup, will be teaching you about the pollinators in the McLean County Extension garden and how you can start a pollinator pocket garden at your house. This workshop is open to the whole family.

Public Presentation Workshops

One of the biggest fears people have is public speaking. But have no fear, Paige Prehoda is here to help you conquer your fear! Paige has attended several national public speaking events and has many years of experience.

Beginner Workshop One  will help youth ages 8-12 prepare a talk and demonstration to present at the club level, practice conference judging and so much more!

Mall Mania & the Sharper Shopper

We have so many options to purchase a variety of goods, whether it’s selecting our favorite cookie from the grocery store or purchasing a new outfit. Youth ages five to seven will have the opportunity to learn about advertising, product endorsement, and will play an interactive game.

Gardening 101

Youth ages five to seven will explore the world of gardening. Youth will have the opportunity to build their own container garden and bird house, and learn about various age appropriate gardening techniques.
