Miss McLean County Fair 2009, Taylor Dirks, recently competed with 65 other county fair queens in the annual IAAF (Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs) sponsored Miss Illinois County Fair Queen Pageant in Springfield. On January 14-17 the young women participated in several rehearsals as well as speech, poise, and interview competitions. Taylor is the daughter of Brian and Linda Dirks of Ellsworth. She is currently a sophomore at Lincoln College in Lincoln, IL.
Taylor's speech:
"After watching David Letterman complete his 10 ten list one night I thought I would make a list of reasons why girls would want to represent McLean County.
MyTop 5 Reasons to Represent McLean County:
5. McLean is leading the nation in corn and soybean production.
4. It's not everyday a girl gets to wear heels, a dress, and crown while walking through a pig barn.
3. McLean County has the largest 4-H fair in the nation.
2. You will always have a handsome escort, since McLean county is one of the few counties that always crowns a king.
and the #1 reason to represent McLean county is you will make friends and memories that will last a lifetime."
