Woodford County Master Gardener Plant Sale in Eureka

Woodford County Master Gardener Plant Sale Coming Soon!

Eureka, Ill. – It is time again for the Woodford County Master Gardener Plant Sale at the Eureka Library! The plant sale will be from 8 a.m. to Noon on Saturday, May 20. "Stock up this spring with garden favorites like perennials, grasses, annuals, some vegetables, herbs, and oddities for the garden" states University of Illinois Extension Horticulture Educator, Kelly Allsup. Remember to bring your questions along for your visit with the Master Gardeners. You will have time to ask them questions about gardening, plants, trees and insects while letting them solve all of your gardening woes.

All the money raised through the plant sale will go to Woodford County Master Gardener efforts throughout our year. A few examples are expanding the herb garden at the Eureka Courthouse, contributing to youth educational efforts and running educational booths around the communities.

April 25 was the last official frost-free date for Zone 5b; this gives gardeners full permission to start planting tender vegetable transplants and seeds in their gardens. If you are unsure of how to start a vegetable garden or just want to come by to pick up some new tips, please stop by the plant sale to learn more about all things spring, gardening, and fun.

This year the feature plants will be Illinois natives and cultivars that attract the butterflies and the bees. Perennials available will be butterfly weed, coneflower, black-eyed susan, monarda, penstemon, silene, baptisia, nodding onion and gentian.

If you need reasonable accommodations, please contact Kelly Allsup, Extension unit educator, Horticulture-Livingston, McLean and Woodford Unit (309) 663-8306, kallsup@illinois.edu.
