4-H in McLean County

4-H in McLean County

The McLean County 4-H program is actually a part of University of Illinois Extension. Through U of I Extension, 4-H programs are conducted statewide. 4-H is an organization that is known all over the world, with clubs in every county of every state in the United States, and in more than 80 countries around the world.

4-H is organized into clubs throughout the county, based either on where members live, or projects they choose to take. Volunteer adult leaders help to lead the clubs, provide organization and adult supervision for the various club activities. They also help to provide educational opportunities for the members, and chances for leadership and citizenship development.

If you are looking to join a 4-H club, you may contact a 4-H leader or the Extension Office.

The 4-H year begins on September 1. Youth are invited to join 4-H at any time throughout the year; however, to be eligible to participate in the McLean County 4-H Show, youth must meet the following 4-H enrollment deadlines:

January 5 (postmarked on or before) In order to exhibit at the county 4-H show, the 4-H Enrollment Form and $20 program fee is due for all RETURNING 4-H members. The 4-H member must enroll in at least one project by this deadline. The program fee may be paid by check, 4-H Club check, cash, money order or by completing a scholarship form.

April 15 (postmarked on or before) In order to exhibit at the county 4-H show, the 4-H Enrollment Form and $20 program fee is due for all NEW 4-H members. The program fee may be paid by cash, check, money order or by completing a scholarship form.

April 15 (postmarked on or before) Final changes (add or drop) in project enrollment for ALL 4-H members.

Please remember that a youth may join 4-H at any time during the year. The above deadlines are in order to exhibit at the county 4-H show.

As workshops, classes, steer tattooing, and other opportunities are planned, information will be sent to those who are enrolled in the corresponding projects. It would be to your advantage to select your projects sooner rather than later.

No child shall be turned away from 4-H for financial reasons. Leaders or 4-H families may receive a fee waiver application by calling their county extension office. The form will also be posted on our website.
