Training Classes

University of Illinois Extension will offer the Illinois Master Naturalist (ILMN) training during the fall of each odd numbered year. Applications for the class of 2017 will open April 30, with the classes begining approximately August 18.

Candidates are adults ages 18 and over who are committed to life-long learning and stewardship of local resources. They must be members of the local community who are interested in habitats, ecosystems, natural resources and the environment and who are willing to devote time to volunteering and on-going training.

The training courses are offered on Fridays, 9 AM – 4:00 PM, from August 18 - October 27. Once accepted, trainees will be required to attend all training classes, led by University of Illinois Extension educators and regional scientists. The training consists of approximately 70 hours of classroom instruction and field instruction.

  • Date of submission of your application
  • Availibility to attend trainings
  • Ability to commit to internship projects
  • Meeting background check requirements
  • Communication skills
  • Orientation meeting
    • Interest in Natural Resources
    • Interest in sharing knowledge with others
    • Open mindedness
